The short answer
Wash the pads in warm soapy water and dry them with a cloth. That's it. Strapzy's shin pads are designed to take on sweat and water, so regular washing won't shorten the life of the foam lining.
How to wash shin pads
Soapy water
Fill a basin or sink with warm water and a little washing-up liquid or mild soap.
Wash both sides
Wash the foam lining and the front of the pad with a cloth or soft sponge, then rinse with clean water.
Dry with a cloth
Dry the pads with a cloth or towel, then leave them somewhere airy before they go back in the bag.
Wash the sleeves and socks too. They hold most of the sweat, and they can go in the washing machine with your kit.
How often?
Give them a wash whenever they start to smell, or once a week if you train a lot. Because the pads handle water well, washing more often does no harm.
Habits that keep pads fresh
- Take them out of the bag as soon as you get home, so they're not shut in with wet kit.
- Wear a sleeve or sock between the pad and your skin.
- Keep pads in a mesh bag or the outside pocket of your kit bag.
- Fresh socks every session. See our grip socks.
